My favourite instrument and its sound
August 26th, 2008 . by adminThe medieval lute is one of my favorite instruments. I first heard a lute at a guitar festival in Toronto and I was hooked. The lute is the ancestor of the acoustic guitar. Its tone is lower than the guitar, much like the tone of a cello is lower than the tone of a violin. My favorite piece of music is Bachs Lute Suites. If you listen to it played on classical guitar (Andre Segovia is best) then listen to it played on lute by Julian Bream, you will see the difference and begin to appreciate the magnificence of the sound of the medieval lute.
