Installing Aftermarket Wheels

August 29th, 2010 . by admin

Aftermarket wheels can be installed just like regular wheels. If you have installed OEM wheels before, doing the same with aftermarket wheels will pose no problems. After having your tires and rims mounted in the car shop, clean the lug nuts and stud threads using water and baking soda. Check these parts for damage or corrosion. Avoid lubricating the threads during this time because this will cause your nuts and lugs to become loose while you are driving them. Jack up your car and remove the existing wheel using a tire iron.  Install one of the wheels using the lug nuts that came with the rims. Tighten the lug nuts while keeping the wheel supported  and tighten the nuts with a torque wrench in a criss-cross or star pattern to ensure even pressure. Turn the wheel of the car left and right to look for resistance. If there is resistance, remove the tire. If there is none, lower the car to the ground and turn the wheel to the left and right once more to check for resistance. If there is any rubbing, remove the wheel. Do the same with the rest of the wheels
