Menopause does add some amount of difficulty for women to achieve prime fitness. Menopause sets in the late forties and if women do not begin their fitness program before that age, it could become a little tougher. That is why fitness for women over 40 must begin early to take advantage of the hormone estrogen. One of the functions of estrogen is to retrieve energy from storage, as it is a catalytic hormone. After menopause, estrogen is no longer produced. This affects burning of fat. If women do not exercise smartly enough they are less likely to get into good shape.
