Understanding Your Blood Pressure Monitor Readings

April 28th, 2008 . by admin

If you are monitoring your own blood pressure at home using one of the many excellent home monitors available today then you may be slightly confused by your blood pressure monitor readings. This confusion for many people arises because each check produces not one but two numbers - a higher systolic pressure reading and a lower diastolic pressure reading. Normal blood pressure is often quoted as being 120/80 and people tend to focus their attention on just the first figure of 120. However, both figures are important and 120/90 for example would indicate a problem. So, when interpreting your readings, remember to look carefully at both numbers. Your systolic pressure should be between 90 and 120 and your diastolic pressure should be between 60 and 80.
