The Changing Face of Produce Processing
February 19th, 2010 . by adminFor many years the produce industry relied on manual laborers to grow, harvest, and process fruits and vegetables. Not only was this a tedious job for the laborers, but it was often slow, cumbersome, and unsanitary. Over the years modern advances have completely changed the way produce travels from the farm to the table. A tomato, for instance, may be grown in a climate-controlled green house and processed through an automated and sanitary tomato sorter. The entire cycle, from beginning to end, may involve little, if any human involvement, which is a good thing. Technology allows the products to be quality controlled, packed, and shipped in record time and arrive in excellent condition.
